Full Sail, Wargaming.net team up to open user experience lab

ORLANDO - Wargaming.net and Full Sail University have teamed up to launch a new on-campus user experience lab at its main campus in Winter Park.

With the support of Wargaming.net, the lab brings state-of-the-art UX testing to over 5,000 play testers annually, and will include Full Sail students and graduates, as well as external members of the community. The Full Sail User Experience Lab will also address and execute 100+ research projects per year for companies from multiple industries, as well as provide a project-based teaching environment.

Code School acquired by Pluralsight for $36 Million

codeschoollogoORLANDO - Online technology training service Pluralsight has acquired the Orlando-based Code School, which offers dozens of instructional courses and videos for developers both online and via mobile apps. The $36 million deal is Pluralsight’s sixth acquisition in the past 18 months, as it continues its strategy of buying up smaller companies to expand its footprint in the online learning industry, putting it up against competitors like lynda.com and Skillsoft, for example.

Orlando Game Jam events among world’s largest

ORLANDO - Global Game Jam events held this past weekend in both downtown Orlando and the campus of Full Sail University in Winter Park were among the largest attended in the world. More than 300 independent game developers, students and designers participated creating over 40 games. This placed Orlando sixth globally in participation and third nationally.

Orlando Science Center’s Otronicon Celebrates 10 Years of Innovation

ORLANDO – For the 10th consecutive year, multiple industry partners join Orlando Science Center to celebrate interactive technology’s role in how we live, learn, work and play during Otronicon January 16 – 19, 2015.

Otronicon is the Science Center’s largest annual event with an average of 3,000 visitors each day — more than 12,000 guests for all four days. The experience has the opportunity to inspire a child’s interest in science and tech careers through the appeal of video games, interactive technology and virtual reality.

LaunchCode gets $1.5M funding from The Knight Foundation

LaunchCode LogoMIAMI - St. Louis-based non-profit LaunchCode is expanding to Miami, with funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, to address the issue of brain drain in South Florida’s growing tech community. LaunchCode matches technologists with local companies through paid apprenticeships. The Knight Foundation is investing $1.25 million, over three years, to support LaunchCode’s Miami opening early next year.
